The mantis mid flight and entrapped in the glass tomb. I use the mantis to relate to myself and my own power. I constructed this piece during COVID when I was living with my partner (now ex) intuition had mapped out our doom. But at the time we were still water. Nothing but quaint affection that seemed everlasting. Although the reality of who we are, mostly myself, seemed to peak on the horizon like a terrible storm. The Rhododendron flowers symbolizing the danger. Because no affection or good intentions can change two unhealed people. We were like two creatures in a cage, guarding our unhealed vulnerability vehemently. We both became enemies in each others eyes in the same breath we be came lovers. I hope anyone who has ever felt repressed or stifled by their lover knows, to walk away, compromise produces comfort but true love accepts the savagery of two in the discomfort of change.
