5in x 7in, Acrylic on Board
When I was a teenager, I collected Sowbug Killers. I treasured their velvet bodies of beige and scarlet. But unfortunately, this was also a time of disconnect on my part. I was experiencing severe manic lows, which included isolating myself and extreme numbness. It is a feeling that resurfaced in 2021. So I painted my sentimental spider reaching onto a solid object in space as a metaphor for being aware of apathy and not being able to remedy it tangibly. It's like watching through sleep paralysis while the natural world's excellent advice is always to "snap out" of it.
