Frogs are little green monsters in myth. In stories, they are synonymous with being greedy and unclean. These humble amphibians balance out the ecosystem by controlling the population of macroinvertebrates. The American tree frog is a childhood pastime of catching tadpoles and adult frogs in the spring. As I am sure is true with many people, they are these small innocent things we feel compelled to bother. Too fragile to be held. Love lies bleeding is split in two in the center of the canvas, with the frog climbing a continuation of the plant. The sunlight from behind the thin paper leaves seeps into the foreground while the frog rises into the shaded parts attempting to escape lest its color blanch in the light.

Big thank you to my Abuelita for buying this one and insisting! I am fortunate to have support in my family.
